Grid, storage & electrification
After twenty years of flat demand, US electricity load is growing again — AI data centers, electrification and reshored factories all want power at once — and this bucket owns the equipment that has to be built for that to happen: GE Vernova's turbines and grid gear, Eaton's electrical systems, Vertiv's data-center power and cooling, Quanta's transmission crews, plus battery and fuel-cell players (Fluence, Eos, Bloom). The tell for these businesses is the backlog: orders stretch years out, and the market prices the growth long before revenue lands. That is also the risk — several names here re-rated hard on the AI power story and now carry expectations to match. Watch backlog growth and margins, and remember this bucket overlaps with the AI trade and can sell off with it. Vertiv supplies power and cooling infrastructure for data centers — the purest AI-buildout exposure in the bucket.
